Description

A distinction is made between normal emergency lighting and so-called low location lighting. Normal emergency lighting is integrated into ceiling lighting, but experience has shown that it becomes completely ineffective in a smoky atmosphere.
Under these circumstances, the installation of a low-location lighting system significantly improves the chances of a successful evacuation.
The guidelines of IMO Resolution A.752 (18) of 4 November 1993 and ISO 15370, second edition, describes the design, approval, installation, and maintenance of such a low-location lighting system.

The Glamox Low Location Lighting System completely covers the described requirements and guidelines. It is based on the use of light emitting diodes (LEDs) and is designed for marking escape routes at ground level. The system meets the environmental conditions and test methods according to the requirements of the current edition of:

● IEC Pub. 598-2-2-2-22 at a reference ambient temperature of 40°C
● Ordinance on Type Testing of Electrical Equipment Components, Germanischer Lloyd (GL)
● Type testing of measuring and automation devices, Det Norske Veritas (DNV).
● Type-approval system, Lloyds Register (LR)

In public spaces, the system may also be used as additional emergency lighting for passenger ships in accordance with Regulation II-1/42-1 of the 1974 SOLAS Convention. The system is type approved by MED (Marine Equipment Directive 96/98/EC).

Low-location lighting is a completely self-contained system that is constantly in standby mode until it is switched on by
● an input signal from the activation panel,
● an input signal from the fire alarm system,
● power failure,
● pressing a test button on the power supply (only power supply with battery version).

Several LED signs support the system and allow a simpler and clearer orientation:
● Arrow signs are to be used in dead ends.
● EXIT Sign modules are used to identify doors that are part of the General Escape Route Plan and some of the escape route doors.
● STAIR signs are required to clearly mark the first and last step of a staircase.

All signs can be easily integrated into the LED strips within the standard profile system. No additional profiles or housings are required, which is one of the system advantages.
